Coble Mixes it up : On Tuesday, November 10, 2009, the James Coble Middle School students held their 2nd Annual Mix it up day at lunch.

From a James Coble Middle School counselor: Mix It Up is a nationwide campaign that encourages students to sit somewhere different in the cafeteria and get to know new people. Our desire is that students will go outside their usual group of friends, break through social boundaries, and find something in common with students different than them. We hope that students will learn to embrace and celebrate differences and include people rather than practice racism and discrimination.

Worley MS Tail-a-Tiger : From the Worley Middle School principal, Christie Alfred: "Tail Your Tiger is our parent involvement day. We set aside two days on Nov 4th and 5th for parents to come to school with their child for all or part of the day. Parents pre-registered and we had folders with materials ready for them to take to class. We had a parent meeting for our 8th grade parents during Advisory. At this meeting we reviewed SSI requirements and information on the EXPLORE test that all of our 8th grade students are taking. We also gave all parents here for lunch a coupon for a free ice cream treat. On November 4th we had 98 signed up and on the 5th we have 78 parents sign up. On both days our Texas History teachers conducted Native-American lessons for parents and students to participate in including a tee-pee, games, food and an Indian burial activity."

Jobe Middle School Staff Poverty Simulation : On Monday, October 12, 2009 the staff from Linda Jobe Middle School participated in a poverty simulation where teachers participated in a family role-playing exercise to help them get a glimpse of what it is like to live for one month (four 15-minute "weeks") at or below the poverty level. This eye-opening experience provided insights into what might be realities for students in order to teach the staff to look at education through the lens of families who struggle through their circumstances.
