RWMS Attends TCU Football Game : Recently, Jamie Gilmartin, AVID Coordinator for Rogene Worley Middle School, arranged to take her AVID students (along with all other MISD middle school AVID students) to a TCU home football game. The students had a wonderful time as many of them had never stepped foot on a college campus before. Ms. Gilmartin is the lead AVID teacher at Worley and is doing an amazing job with these kids. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. In MISD, it is an in-school academic support program for grades 5-8 that prepares students for college eligibility and success. AVID is offered as an elective course that, like any other class, meets regularly. AVID is currently being implemented and available to all MISD 5th - 9th grades. “The program itself has impacted so many of our kids, its methods, practices, and strategies, when implemented correctly, can transform an entire school,” states Kristi Shannon, Worley Assistant Principal, and the administrator over the AVID program.

MISD Game Day at Cowboys Stadium : Mansfield ISD football teams, Summit Jaguars and Timberview Wolves, were invited to participate in the Kirk Herbstreit Varsity Football Challenge held at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium. Timberview secured their very first win against crosstown rival Summit High School late in the game. Photos by MISD instructor Justin Dearing.
